One Pool, Los Angeles

One Pool, Los Angeles is a project I shot for two years on the same Los Angeles, California pool. The series examined one pool’s reflections on water as the light changed across days and seasons. The series is about illusion. As an Easterner, I felt dislocated, an alien in a mirage in Los Angeles. For this series, I went into that world. LA specific details locate me–the palms, the range of aquas, the sharp light. But the images are also a mirage, it’s an uncertain and multidimensional subterranean world that is beautiful and transient. Getting lost in this project was a respite and I embraced that LA, shape-shifting pool. The illusion, to me, is symbolic of my experience of Los Angeles.
