I Was Dancing Before The Storm

I am currently working on a project about mental health, depression and recovery, based on my own story and on other victims testimonies. The entire project is shot on Polaroïd with no post-production. I made emulsion lifts for this series called “I was dancing before the Storm”. I chose this medium because it remains unpredictable and very delicate, which emphasize the hard reality of what victims can go through. The four pictures presented here are an extract from this project, focusing on the moment victims of depression stop being themselves. They stop everything that used to bring them joy. Depression is here represented by a storm striking a dancer. I like to create images for invisible feelings; besides being very therapeutic for me and for the spectator, it is a complex exercise that pushes the limits of creativity. I hope you will enjoy!
