Beyond The Sea

This work probes the depths of vernacular beach scene photography & the hidden stories that remain or could have been. The unknown family ‘traditional’ photographs are reimagined with shorelines and seascapes. By gently combining analogue & digital, I have forged new narratives & reclaimed redundant imagery. It is quite difficult to believe that in the UK it was only just over 20 years ago since RNLI lifeguards starting patrolling beaches to keep us safe by offering a seamless rescue on the shore and in the open sea. The sea offers an untameable charm and pulls you in with her seductive ebb and flow. These images are an ode to the sea, the visitors, its compelling dark mystery, the lost & missing.
